cross over toe deformity

Cross over toe deformity is a type of deformity where one toe may deviate medially or laterally crossing another toe.

Epidemiology

It has been reported to be more commonly seen in women over the age of 50 years , and in patients with hallux valgus.

Pathology

It can occur if there is a unilateral/partial plantar plate tear and a deficiency in one of the collaterals. Medial deviation is considered more common and the second toe is most commonly affected.
