Recurrent tibial arteries

Posterior tibial recurrent artery

Origin and course
  • Inconstant branch that arises before the anterior tibial reaches the extensor compartment
  • Ascends anterior to popliteus with the recurrent nerve to that muscle, anastomosing with the inferior genicular branches of the popliteal artery
Supply
  • Superiror tibiofibular joint

Anterior tibial recurrent artery

Origin and course
  • Arises near the posterior tibial recurrent artery
  • Ascends in tibialis anterior, ramifies on the front and sides of the knee joint and joins the patellar network, anastomosing with the inferior genicular branches of the popliteal artery

  • Superior tibiofibular joint
