Osteotomy

An osteotomy refers to an orthopedic surgical procedure that involves a bone to shorten or lengthen it or to change its alignment.

Another application is the creation of a surgical access route to an otherwise inaccessible site. This is done, for example, on the olecranon to treat complex intra-articular fractures of the elbow. The olecranon is then anatomically osteosynthetically fixed again.

Osteotomies can by performed at many sites. Examples include :
