Iodide mumps
Iodide mumps is a rare delayed adverse reaction to iodinated contrast media.
It presents within 1 to 12 hours after contrast administration, with painless parotid and submandibular swelling. Both ionic and non-ionic contrast agents can cause these reactions, but about 90% of the cases occur with the former.
Both hypersensitivity reaction and toxic accumulation are proposed mechanisms.
This adverse reaction usually spontaneously subsides after about 24 hours.
