Apical periodontitis refers to a spectrum of diseases that occur around the tooth apex these can include :

• periapical granuloma
• periapical abscess
• periapical (radicular) cyst

Complications

Apical periodontal disease of the maxillary teeth can extend into the maxillary sinuses with resultant odontogenic sinusitis.
