Acetabular sourcil
The acetabular sourcil is a radiographic feature seen on plain radiographs of the hip and pelvis as well as coronal CT reformats and MR images. It refers to as the roof or the weight-bearing area of the acetabulum and is characterized by an increased degree of sclerosis.
Its medial and lateral edges form important landmarks for several signs and measurements in the evaluation of hip morphology including the following :
- tönnis angle
- modified lateral center-edge angle by Ogata
- medial center edge angle
- acetabular arc
- fovea alta
An upsloping lateral sourcil indicates acetabular dysplasia and hip instability a downsloping sourcil leads to pincer morphology.
