Anterior medial malleolar artery

Anterior medial malleolar artery is the counterpart to the anterior lateral malleolar artery, and supplies the medial aspect of the ankle.

Gross anatomy

Origin and course

• branch of anterior tibial artery
• arises approximately 5 cm proximal to the ankle
• passes posterior to the tendons of extensor hallucis longus and tibialis anterior medial to the joint, where it joins branches of the posterior tibial and medial plantar arteries

Supply

• medial side of the ankle
