Association fibers of the brain
Association fibers of the brain, also known as association tracts of the brain or intrahemispheric tracts (cortex-cortex connections ) are a type of white matter tract that connects different areas in the same hemisphere. There are two types of association fibers: long-range and U-fibers (short-range) . DTI tractography can identify the following long-range tracts
- arcuate fasciculus (Broca's-Geschwind's-Wernicke's areas connections ): contains long-range and short-range fibers that connect the frontal, parietal and temporal lobes
- superior and inferior fronto-occipital fasciculi
- cingulum (Limbic System Fibers)
- uncinate fasciculus
- superior and inferior longitudinal fasciculi
