Cerclage wire
Cerclage wire refers to a type of orthopedic fixation/stabilization wire placed to approximate fractured bone fragments.
Types
- full - 360° circumferential wire used in diaphysis segments of long bones
- hemicerclage - wire is placed through one of the main fractured bone fragments, as used in the repair of long bone fractures, particularly at or near the metaphysis
Cerclage wiring may be used as a standalone device, or in combination with other fixation systems.
Uses
- stabilization and fixation of proximal femur in cases of periprosthetic fractures of the femur, subtrochanteric fractures or as a prophylactic banding in total joint hip arthroplasty.
