Colegio Interamericano de Radiologia

The Colegio Interamericano de Radiologia (CIR) (in English it is called the InterAmerican College of Radiology (IACR)) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1943 in Argentina. According to its website, it is constituted by national scientific groups of radiology and other certain other diagnostic imaging groups (societies, associations, federations, schools, and others). The organization includes groups from countries in the American and countries outside it linked language and culture (e.g. Spain and Portugal).

The Colegio Interamericano de Radiología aims to associate radiologists of member countries through their respective national societies, to guard and protect radiology standards and ethics in their respective countries, and to raise the quality of these professionals.

History

The Colegio Interamericano de Radiología was established during the First Inter-American Congress of Radiology, held on October 1943 in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina . The following committee was designated to organize the IACR: Dr. Merlo Gómes, Dr. José Saralegui, Dr. Pedro Farinas, Dr. Mata Martinez, and Prof Carlos Butler .

In 1945, the Second Inter-American Congress was held in Havana, Cuba, as that year marked the fiftieth anniversary of Roentgen's discovery .
