digital radiography

Digital radiography is based on the use of discrete values in comparison to conventional radiography which uses analog/continuous values. It removes the requirement of dark room procedures.

Types

• computed radiography (CR)
  • uses photostimulable phosphor plates (PSP) in cassettes
• direct digital radiography (DDR)
  • no cassette
  • uses direct or indirect flat panel detectors or charge coupled devices (CCDs)
  • can be indirect or direct
