(Synicem) als temporärer Platzhalter bei infizierter Hüftendoprothese. Wenn die Infektion ausgeheilt ist, wird wieder eine dauerhafte Hüftendoprothese implantiert.
Girdlestone-Situation
nach Ausbau einer infizierten Totalendoprothese des linken Hüftgelenks. Zur Zemententfernung wurde das obere Femurende gefenstert. Der Kortikalisspan ist mit drei Cerclagen refixiert. Im Pfannenlager und in der Markhöhle des Femurs sind PMMA-Ketten eingelegt.

The Girdlestone procedure (also known as a femoral head ostectomy or Girdlestone resection arthroplasty) is an excision arthroplasty of the hip. The procedure inevitably results in limb shortening.
Indications
- peri-prosthetic infection
- aseptic loosening
- recurrent dislocation
- failed internal fixation of femoral neck fractures
History and etymology
The procedure, as developed by British surgeon Gathorne Robert Girdlestone (1881-1950) in 1928, was initially developed as a lifesaving measure to remove disease and devitalised tuberculous hips in the preantibiotic era .
