hepatic flexure

Right colic flexure (or hepatic flexure) is used to describe the bend in the colon as the ascending colon continues as the transverse colon.

Gross anatomy

Connective tissue connects this part of the colon to the anterior pararenal fascia, descending part of the duodenum (D2) and head of pancreas. It also creates an impression on the inferior surface of the liver.

Relations
  • superiorly: liver (right lobe)
  • posteriorly: right kidney
  • medially: descending part of the duodenum (D2)
