Humerus (supracondylar AP view)

AP view for supracondylar aspect of humerus may be taken to look for supracondylar fracture.

Patient position

  • patient stands facing the X-ray tube with the posterior aspect of arm in contact with cassette (placed on a vertical stand)

X-ray beam features

  • a horizontal beam is employed
  • centered between medial and lateral epicondyle 
    • this can be achieved with partial or full flexion of the elbow
