An isolated cleft palate is a type of facial cleft. This is a much rarer occurrence than a cleft lip +/- palate and is thought to represent a different pathological entity.
Epidemiology
The estimated incidence is at ~1 per 2000-2500 pregnancies . There may be a slight female predilection .
Pathology
The cleft can involve either the soft or hard palate and may extend as far as the nasopalatine foramen but there is no accompanying cleft lip.
Associations
There can be many associated anomalies including:

Radiographic features
Ultrasound
An isolated cleft palate only rarely identified prenatally. An "absent equals sign" has been proposed as a novel marker where a normal uvula could be visualized with a typical echo pattern (the 'equals sign') in normal cases .
