Neostriatum

Neostriatum is the name given to the caudate nucleus and the putamen (the putamen is the outer layer of the lentiform nucleus).

Terminology

The term is sometimes abbreviated to striatum; however, this should be distinguished from corpus striatum (which is the caudate nucleus in addition to the entirety of the lentiform nucleus).
