Pulmonary schistosomiasis

Pulmonary schistosomiasis refers to lung involvement in schistosomiasis. Lung involvement can in 50% of cases. It sometimes falls into the group of secondary eosinophilic lung disease.

The disease if broadly categorized into two main from

  • acute: acute pulmonary schistosomiasis
    •  commonly seen in non-immune travelers
  • chronic: chronic pulmonary schistosomiasis
    • chronic and recurrent infection develops in persons living or traveling in endemic areas
