• <0.5 mm in size
• small, round
• uniform in appearance
• diffuse
• often bilateral

BI-RADS categories

• scattered round calcifications: BI-RADS 2
• isolated cluster or if new or ipsilateral to cancer: BI-RADS 3 or 4
