Scoliosis radiography
Scoliosis radiography is useful in identifying the degree of the scoliosis curvature (major/minor or primary/compensatory curves), as well as observe its progression to determine the best method of treatment .
Indications
Scoliosis radiographs are performed specifically when the disease is suspected, or when its severity/progression are being measured .
Projections
Protocols for scoliosis radiography may vary depending on each radiology department.
- PA/AP view
- visualization of all thoracic and lumbar vertebrae of interest
- may be taken erect and supine for comparison
- erect lateral view
- visualization of all thoracic and lumbar vertebrae of interest
- used to identify spondylolisthesis, the degree of kyphosis/lordosis
- lateral bending PA/AP view
- assesses the range of motion of the spine by having the patient bend laterally to either side
