sesamoid fracture

Interphalangeal
joint sesamoid (hand) • Sesamoid fracture - thumb - Ganzer Fall bei Radiopaedia
Sesamoid fractures occur as a result of trauma to a previous unipartite sesamoid bone. They mostly occur in relation to the sesamoids of the foot - i.e. Hallux sesamoid.
Radiographic features
On some occasions, an acute fracture of unipartite sesamoid can be differentiated from a congenital bipartite sesamoid using bone scan or MRI . The separated bony margins may be sharper on a radiograph.
