sickle shaped sacrum

Scimitar sacrum, also known as sickle-shaped sacrum or hemisacral agenesis, is a unilateral, well-marginated, crescent-shaped defect in the lateral sacrum.

Pathology

The expansion of a meningocele causes scalloping and lateral displacement of the sacral plate.

Associations

Scimitar sacrum is pathognomonic for anterior sacral meningocele. Scimitar sacrum, anorectal malformation, and presacral mass represent the Currarino triad.
