vastus intermedius muscle

The vastus intermedius muscle is one of the four quadriceps muscles in the anterior compartment of the thigh. The others are the vastus medialis, the vastus lateralis, and the rectus femoris.

• insertion
  • quadriceps tendon
  • lateral margin of patella
  • lateral condyle of tibia
• action: extends the leg at the knee joint
• arterial supply: lateral circumflex femoral artery
