volume rendering

Volume rendering is a type of data visualization technique which creates a three-dimensional representation of data. CT and MRI data are frequently visualized with volume rendering in addition to other reconstructions and slices.  This technique can also be applied to tomosynthesis data. Volume rendering is primarily done for better visualization of human anatomy, surgical treatment planning as well as in medical teaching . Volume rendering is used less in terms of general ultrasound (the closely related technology of surface rendering is more commonly used in 3D visualization of ultrasounds), however, has been used in echocardiography.
