fetal splenomegaly

Fetal splenomegaly (or simply an enlarged fetal spleen) can arise from a number of situations. It can occur with or without fetal hepatomegaly.

These include

• in utero infection
  • in utero parvovirus B19 infection
  • in utero cytomegalovirus infection
• inborn errors of metabolism
  • Gaucher disease 
  • Neimann-Pick disease 
• in association with fetal hydrops
