Cardiac volumes and measurements
Quantitative cardiac volumes and measurements can obtained for the left and right ventricles and include the following :
- end-diastolic diameter
- interventricular septum thickness
- end-diastolic volume (EDV) [mL] and end-diastolic volume index (EDVI) [mL/m]
- end-systolic volume (ESV) [mL] and end-systolic volume index (LV ESVI) [mL/m]
- stroke volume [mL] and stroke volume index (LV SVI) [mL/m]
- ejection fraction (LV EF) [%]
- cardiac output and cardiac index
- ventricular mass[g] and mass index [g/m]*
Cardiac parameters derived from velocity-encoded imaging are typically obtained in the aorta and main pulmonary artery, but can be also obtained for the atrioventricular valves or atrial septal defects and ventricular septal defects:
- antegrade and retrograde flow volumes
- regurgitant fraction
- peak velocity
- mean velocity
