ancient schwannoma

Ancient schwannomas are long-standing, benign (WHO grade I) slow growing schwannomas with advanced degeneration. The term “ancient” has been traditionally used to describe schwannomas showing degenerative changes and diffuse hypocellular areas .

Pathology

These tumors demonstrate nuclear pleomorphism microscopically, which should not be misinterpreted as malignant features .

Radiographic features

Features of calcification, hyalinization, and cystic cavitation can be identified on imaging .
