binocular distance (BOD)

The binocular distance (BOD) is a measurement between the two lateral (outer) canthi of each eye. It is sometimes used as a accessory fetal biometric parameter where it is often documented on both 2 trimester anatomy scans on axial brain scans. The largest diameter of the orbit should be used and it is considered useful from 7 weeks through to term . There can be some difference between ethnic groups .

It is increased with hypertelorism and reduced with hypotelorism.
