Condylar process of the mandible
The condylar process, also called the condyloid process, is the process on the mandible that articulates with the disk of the TMJ.
Osteology
It consists of two portions:
- condyle
- presents an articular surface for articulation with the articular disk of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), it's convex posteriorly and from side to side; the convexity extends further on the posterior than on the anterior surface
- neck:
- flattened from front to back; lateral pterygoid muscle inserts into it.
