Coracoclavicular distance

The coracoclavicular (CC) distance is an indicator of the integrity of the coracoclavicular (CC) ligament.

Measurement

The CC distance is assessed on frontal radiography of the shoulder or clavicle or the coronal projection of a CT or MRI as the distance between the superior cortex of the coracoid process and the undersurface of the clavicle where the CC ligaments insert.

Interpretation

A normal CC distance is between 11-13 mm and there should be no greater than 5 mm difference between the left and right sides . It is relevant for the determination of the Rockwood type of AC joint injury.
