Dorsal interossei (foot)
The four dorsal interossei muscles are the most superior muscles in the sole of the foot and abduct the 2to 4 toes relative to the long axis through the second toe.

- sides of metatarsals of toes I to V
- insertion
- extensor hoods and bases of proximal phalanges of toes II to IV
- action
- abduction of toes II to IV at metatarsophalangeal joints; resist extension of metatarsophalangeal joints and flexion of interphalangeal joints
- innervation
- lateral plantar nerve from tibial nerve
- first and second dorsal interossei also innervated by deep peroneal nerve
