Gastric antral web

Gastric antral webs are a ring of mucosa in the distal stomach (gastric antrum) that can lead to gastric outlet obstruction. A circumferential ring of mucosa has also been termed a "gastric antral diaphragm".

Epidemiology

Gastric antral webs are rare. There is an association with trisomy 21 and immunodeficiency syndromes.

Radiographic features

Fluoroscopy

• smooth, thin narrowing of the gastric antrum, ~2 cm from the pylorus
• if the web is large, it may result in the appearance of a "double duodenum"

Treatment and prognosis

The web may lead to gastric outlet obstruction. Symptomatic webs may be removed with upper endoscopy .

Differential diagnosis

• gastric carcinoma
• pyloric stenosis (longer channel length than a web)
