Hilgenreiner's line
Developmental
dysplasia of hip. Patient B: Normal-positioned right femoral head is noted (black circle). Left smaller femoral head is located superolateral to Hilgenreiner"s and Perkin"s lines (red circle), while its normal position is inferomedial to them (black circle).
The Hilgenreiner line is a line drawn horizontally through the inferior aspect of both triradiate cartilages. It should be horizontal but is mainly used as a reference for the Perkin line and measurement of the acetabular angle.
This line with the other lines and angles are used in the diagnosis of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH).
History and etymology
It is named after the German surgeon Heinrich Hilgenreiner (3 November 1870 - 24 October 1954).
