Pediatric primary lung tumors are rare in children however they must be distinguished from locally aggressive inflammatory conditions and benign disease.
Primary lung tumors in the neonates and infants include:
- pleuropulmonary blastoma (PPB)
- infantile fibrosarcoma of the lung
- fetal lung interstitial tumor
- infantile pulmonary hemangioma
Primary lung tumors in older children include:
- inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs)
- pulmonary neuroendocrine tumors
- lung carcinomas of the salivary gland type
- recurrent respiratory papillomatosis
