lower vaginal atresia
Lower vaginal atresia is a type of vagina atresia where the the lower 3 of the vagina fails to develop.
Clinical presentation
Patients may present with primary amenorrhea with progressive cyclical abdominal pain.
Pathology
It is usually not considered a type of Mullerian duct anomaly. It occurs from a failure of recanalization of the urogenital sinus.
Radiographic features
May show a hydrometrocolpos or hematometrocolpos due to obstruction although the upper vagina may distend more than uterine cavity.
