Medial collateral ligament bursa

The medial collateral ligament bursa is one of the bursae in the knee with the shape of a vertically expanding compartment located between the superficial and deep portions of the medial collateral ligament. The bursa is usually located at the middle third of the knee, with the anterior margin adjacent to the anterior border of the superficial portion of the medial collateral ligament and the posterior margin outlined by the junction of the superficial and deep portions. It usually consists of a tibial component and in approximately 70% of the cases also of a femoral component .

The medial collateral ligament is coated by a layer of mesothelial cells, which are most likely of epithelial origin .
