The ischiocavernosus muscles are one of the three main muscles found in the superficial perineal pouch along with the bulbospongiosus and superficial transverse perineal muscles.

Gross anatomy
In males, the ischiocavernosus muscle covers the crus of the penis where it attaches to both the ischial tuberosity and ischial ramus on its way to inserting on an aponeurosis on the surface of the corpus cavernosum.
In females, the muscle covers the smaller crus of the clitoris with attachments to the ischiopubic ramus along its course.
Function
In males the muscle helps compress the crus of the penis to maintain and stabilize the erect penis. In females, it similarly helps maintain clitoral erection in conjunction with the bulbospongiosus muscle.
