The quadratus plantae muscle acts to aid in flexing the 2 to 5 toes.

  • origin: medial surface of calcaneus and lateral process of calcaneal tuberosity
  • insertion: lateral side of tendon of flexor digitorum longus in proximal sole of the foot
  • action: assists flexor digitorum longus tendon in flexing toes II to V
  • arterial supply: branch of the posterior tibial artery
  • innervation: lateral plantar nerve from tibial nerve
