supramesocolic space
The supramesocolic space is the peritoneal space above the root of the transverse mesocolon. The inframesocolic space lies below the root of the transverse mesocolon.
It can be arbitrarily divided into right and left supramesocolic spaces and subspaces. These are normally in communication with each other, but may become separated by inflammatory membranes or disease.
The right supramesocolic space has three subspaces:
- right subphrenic space
- right subhepatic space: which can be further divided into
- anterior right subhepatic space
- posterior right subhepatic space (Morison's pouch)
- lesser sac
