Tibiocalcaneal ligament
The tibiocalcaneal ligament belongs to the medial supporting structures of the ankle and is one of the four superficial components of the deltoid ligament .
Gross anatomy
The tibiocalcaneal ligament is located superficial to the deep posterior tibiotalar, posterior to the tibiospring ligament, and anterior to the superficial part of the tibiotalar ligament. It is runs almost vertically from the medial tibial malleolus to the posterior sustentaculum calcanei . The tibiocalcaneal ligament becomes more tense with pronation and dorsiflexion .
Attachments
Proximally the tibiocalcaneal ligament inserts near the intercollicular groove of the medial malleolus.
Distally it inserts at the posterior part of the sustentaculum tali, just posterior to the proximal origin of the superomedial portion of the calcaneonavicular ligament.
Variant anatomy
Depending on the study it was reported to be absent in 21-50% of the cases .
