Fat containing breast lesions generally have some radiolucent component on mammography.
Pathology
They are generally classified at BIRADS II lesions.
Common
- breast lipoma
- breast hamartoma
- fat necrosis within the breast/oil cyst
- intramammary lymph node: classically has a central fatty hilum
- galactocoele
Uncommon
- steatocystoma multiplex of the breast
- angiomyolipoma of the breast : very rare lesion
- well differentiated liposarcoma of breast
Note
- complex sclerosing lesion:
- looks like breast carcinoma, but often has a lucent center; usually 1-3 cm; at <1 cm these lesions have the same histology but are called radial scars and are not usually mammographically seen
