Middle thyroid vein

The middle thyroid vein is a tributary of the internal jugular vein.

Gross anatomy

Origin and course

The middle thyroid vein arises from the lateral surface of the thyroid. It traverses laterally to the internal jugular vein, passing anterior to the common carotid artery and posterior to the sternothyroid and omohyoid muscles.
