mesenchymal chondrosarcoma
A challenging
case of Mesenchymal Chondrosarcoma involving the thyroid and special considerations for diagnosis. Second ultrasound. Transverse view of the thyroid ultrasound showing right lobe, isthmus and left lobe. The isthmus and the left lobe are noted for homogenous echotexture. Right lobe (white arrow) is enlarged due to multiple nodules
A challenging
case of Mesenchymal Chondrosarcoma involving the thyroid and special considerations for diagnosis. Second ultrasound. Transverse view thyroid ultrasound showing the enlarged right thyroid lobe consisting of multiple solid hypoechoic nodules some with calcifications. The largest nodule in right mid-pole (red arrow) measures 2 × 1.6 × 2.1 cm
Primary
intra- and extradural extramedullary mesenchymal chondrosarcoma with isolated punctate calcification: case report and literature review. Preoperative MR images. A Sagittal T2WI, B Sagittal T2WI with fat suppression, C Sagittal T1WI, D Sagittal T1WI with gadolinium enhancement, E Axial T1WI, F Axial T1WI with gadolinium enhancement. Dumbbell tumor could be visualized at the L1 level
Primary
intra- and extradural extramedullary mesenchymal chondrosarcoma with isolated punctate calcification: case report and literature review. Preoperative CT images. A, B Axial images. C, D Sagittal images. CT images revealed isolated punctate calcification in the mass (arrows)
Management of
renal extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma. Abdominal CT sowing the huge renal tumor.
Mesenchymal chondrosarcomas are a rare chondrosarcoma subtype.
Pathology
They are found in both bone and soft tissues (see: extraskeletal chondrosarcoma).
Histology
Mesenchymal chondrosarcomas are characterized by bimorphic histology:
- densely packed small round blue cells similar to those seen in Ewing's sarcoma
- cells are seen in a perivascular arrangement which is reminiscent of hemangiopericytomas
- malignant cartilaginous tumor
