nonchromaffin paraganglion cells

Nonchromaffin paraganglion cells are cells in the neuroendocine system that make up several clusters of chemoreceptive cells. These cells are associated with a supporting maxtrix and are found in close proximity to blood vessels and nerves (especially the glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves). They sense pH, carbon dioxide, and oxygen concentrations in the blood and participate in respiratory, and circulatory control.
