Porus trigeminus
The porus trigeminus is the dural foramen at the entrance of the Meckel cave.
Gross anatomy
The porus trigeminus is the dural foramen at the trigeminal depression of the petrous apex through which the trigeminal nerve passes as it extends from the prepontine cistern of the posterior cranial fossa into the Meckel cave of the middle cranial fossa .
Relations and/or Boundaries
- superiorly: posterior petroclinoid ligament (an extension of the free edge of the tentorium cerebelli ), usually containing superior petrosal sinus
- inferiorly: inferior petrosal sinus
- medially: base of posterior clinoid process of sphenoid body
- laterally: petrous apex
