Symmetrical periosteal reaction

There are a large number of causes for a symmetrical periosteal reaction :

• chronic venous insufficiency
• hypertrophic osteoarthropathy
• physiologic periostitis, most common cause before 6 months old
• Caffey disease
• juvenile idiopathic arthritis
• pachydermoperiostosis
• congenital syphilis
• fluorosis
• thyroid acropachy
• dysproteinaemia
