amniotic fluid discordance
An amniotic fluid discordance is usually defined as a difference in amniotic fluid volumes in a twin pregnancy. It is a predictor of poor fetal outcome in twin pregnancy related complications.
Pathology
Causes of amniotic fluid discordance include :
- twin-twin transfusion syndrome
- placental insufficiency
- intrauterine infection
- congenital (e.g. renal agenesis in one twin)
- premature rupture of membranes in one of the twins (in MCDA / DCDA pregnancies)
