Fat containing cardiac lesions

Fat containing cardiac lesions have a limited differential diagnosis. These include :

• normal aging/physiologic: mostly subepicardial, more in the right ventricle (especially right ventricular outflow tract) than left ventricle
• lipomatous hypertrophy of the interatrial septum
• chronic myocardial infarction with lipomatous metaplasia of the myocardium
• cardiomyopathies
  • ​arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy
  • left dominant arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy
  • dilated cardiomyopathy
• myocardial fatty foci in tuberous sclerosis complex
• neoplasms
  • lipoma
  • liposarcoma
