pseudobulbar palsy
Pseudobulbar palsy is a clinical syndrome of dysarthria, dysphagia, a hyperactive gag reflex and labile emotional responses. It results from bilateral upper motor neuron brainstem lesions.
This is in contrast to bulbar palsy, which is a lower motor neuron syndrome involving the lowermost cranial nerves. It also results in dysarthria and dysphagia, but with a decreased gag reflex and absence of emotional lability.
