Increased interpedicular distance

The interpedicular distance, which is the distance measured between the pedicles on frontal/coronal imaging, can be widened in a number of situations.

• conditions that can cause dural ectasia (can potentially cause widening)
  • Marfan syndrome
  • neurofibromatosis type I
  • Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
  • ankylosing spondylitis
  • osteogenesis imperfecta
• spinal cord tumor
  • chordoma
  • ependymoma
• myelomeningocele
• meningocele
• trauma
  • chance fracture
  • burst fracture
• spinal arteriovenous malformation (uncommon, occurs in juvenile type)
