Skull tumors can be (as with tumors anywhere else) both primary and secondary, and benign or malignant.

Primary

Benign

• osteoma
• ossifying fibroma
• osteoblastoma
• hemangioma
• giant cell tumor (GCT)
• aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC)
• epidermoid and dermoid cysts
• chondroma

Malignant

• osteosarcoma
• chondrosarcoma
• fibrosarcoma
• chordoma

Secondary

Distant spread

• breast cancer
• lung cancer
• melanoma
• prostate cancer
• thyroid cancer (usually follicular)
• renal cell cancer
• lymphoma
• leukemia
• multiple myeloma
• neuroblastoma - skull metastases are not infrequently the first sign of disease
• Ewing sarcoma

Direct extension

• meningioma
• hemangiopericytoma
• scalp SCC / BCC
• nasopharyngeal carcinoma
• glomus tumors
